Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Filmwriter does with information. Short version: the app is built to keep your film data on your devices. We do not require an account, and we do not operate a Filmwriter account server that stores your rolls.

What Filmwriter is

Filmwriter is an iPhone app for logging film rolls, cameras, lenses, and frame settings, and for writing that information into image metadata (such as EXIF) when you export. It is sold as a one-time App Store purchase.

Information the app stores

Depending on how you use Filmwriter, the app may store on your device:

• Film rolls, frame logs, notes, and related status (for example fridge, in camera, lab, archive)
• Camera and lens details you enter
• Exposure settings you log (including Auto or custom values)
• Optional reference images you attach to frames
• App preferences (for example iCloud backup settings)
• Backup or export files you create (for example JSON library backups)

This information lives in the app’s local storage on your iPhone (including App Group storage used by the widget, where applicable).

We do not ask you to create a Filmwriter username or password. We do not use Sign in with Apple for Filmwriter.

iCloud

If iCloud is available and you leave backup or sync enabled, Filmwriter may store a copy of your library in your iCloud account so you can restore after reinstall or use the data across your devices.

That data is held in iCloud under your Apple ID. Apple provides iCloud; Apple’s privacy practices apply to iCloud itself. If you turn backup or sync off, Filmwriter stops uploading new copies as described in the app. Local data on the device remains until you delete it or remove the app.

Export, Photos, and Files

When you export or share (for example a JSON backup, or images with metadata written into the file), you choose where that data goes: Files, Photos, another app, AirDrop, and so on. Those destinations are controlled by you and by Apple or the other app’s developer. Filmwriter does not upload those exports to a Filmwriter server.

If you grant Photos or Files access, the system permission dialogs control what the app can read or write. You can revoke access in iOS Settings.

Widget

The Home Screen widget reads from the same on-device library (via App Group storage). It does not send your roll data to us.

What we do not collect (in the app)

For Filmwriter as designed:

• No Filmwriter account profile
• No Filmwriter-operated cloud database of your rolls
• No advertising identifier use for ads (the app is not ad-supported)
• No sale of your personal information

If we add optional analytics or crash reporting later, we will update this policy before turning that on and describe what is collected.

The website (filmwriter.app)

The marketing site at filmwriter.app provides product information. It does not host your film library.

Unless we state otherwise on the site, we do not use the website to collect film-roll data. Standard web server or hosting logs (for example IP address, browser type, pages requested) may be processed by our host (Vercel) to operate and secure the site.

If we add site analytics cookies or similar tools, we will update this policy.

Payments

Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your full payment card number. Apple’s privacy policy applies to App Store transactions.

Children

Filmwriter is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Data retention and deletion

• On your device: Delete data inside the app, or delete the app, to remove the local library (subject to any copies you exported or stored in iCloud).
• iCloud: Remove Filmwriter data from iCloud using the app’s controls and/or Apple’s iCloud storage settings for the app.
• Exports you made: Files you saved to Photos, Files, or elsewhere remain until you delete them there.

Because we do not run a Filmwriter account backend for your library, there is no separate “delete my account” request for roll data on our servers.

Third parties

Filmwriter relies on Apple platforms (iOS, App Store, iCloud, Photos, Files, widgets). Those services are governed by Apple’s terms and privacy policy.

We do not sell your information to data brokers.

International users

You may use the app from different countries. On-device data stays on your device unless you enable iCloud or export it. iCloud storage location follows Apple’s iCloud practices for your account.

Changes

We may update this policy as the product changes. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Significant changes will be reflected here and, when appropriate, noted in an app update.
